“Viola Falling in Love”　「恋するビオラ」

Lately, that viola’s been acting kind of giddy.
Turns out, it’s fallen head over scroll for the violin.

“I was swept away,” it confided.
“By those crystal-clear high notes…
like shimmering droplets of light.

“You know the ones—those radiant tones
that seem to float in the air, teasingly out of reach.

The viola, being more of a mellow, mid-range type,
rarely gets to bask in the spotlight.
It’s used to blending in, supporting harmonies
from the shadows.

But now, it’s found itself yearning for something
beyond its own sonic reach.

“Sounds like you’ve gotten tangled up
in the strings of love,” I said.

“Not exactly,” it replied. “It’s more like…
my soul got twisted into　a chord I can’t resolve.”

“Ah, you’ve been enchanted, then?”
“Yes—but not just enchanted. En-string-ed. Get it?
Because it’s the strings I can’t resist.”

And so, the viola keeps playing—
not just notes, but emotions.

Longing, admiration, a touch of jealousy—
all vibrating through its wooden heart.

Tonight, it watches the violin from afar,
resonating softly in unspoken harmony.

This is the ballad of a love struck in fifths and fourths…
the tender tale of a viola in love.

あのビオラさん、最近どこか浮き足立ってはりましてな。
「どないしたん？」て訊いてみたら、
なんとバイオリンに恋してもうたんやそうですわ。

「なんや知らんけど、あの透き通った高音に
心ごと持っていかれてしもてん…」

言葉の端々に、ほれぼれした様子が滲み出てましてな。

でも、ビオラいうたら中音の魅力がウリでして、
派手な主旋律よりも、後ろでしっとり支えるんが持ち味。

「せやから、自分には出せへん音に惹かれてしもたんやろなぁ…」
と、ちょっとしんみり。

「それ、弦に絡まってしもたんちゃう？」って
冗談めかして言うたら、

「ちゃいますって、心がね、
ふわっと絡まってしもたんですわ」やて。

ほんで、「せやなぁ、そうなると“幻惑”された
っちゅうことやろか？」って返したら、

「うん、それもそうなんやけど……“弦惑”って
言いたい気分ですわ。あの音に触れた瞬間、
魂がふるふるっと震えてしもてな」って、
ちょっとはにかみながら話してくれはったんですわ。

楽器も恋をするんやなぁ、と、しみじみ思いましてな。
憧れも嫉妬も、優しさも切なさも、ぜんぶ音になって現れる。

今夜もきっと、
ビオラはそっとバイオリンの背中を見つめながら、
自分にできる音色を紡いでるんでしょうなぁ。

その音には、きっと恋の色がほんのり染みてるはずですわ。
